Anne Hathaway: 'This Fame Thing? F***** Me Up For a Really Long Time

While Anne Hathaway has been a movie star for a long time — remember her in The Princess Diaries as a teen? — fame hasn't always been easy for the actress to handle.
In a new interview in the November issue of Elle UK, Hathaway opens up about her sometimes rough rise to stardom.
"This fame thing f***** me up for a really long time, Anne revealed. "I didn't know how to do it; I didn't know how to engage with it; it stressed me out. And people would say, 'You just have to be yourself,' and I was like, 'But I don't know who that is yet!'"
Her feelings have certainly changed now, though.
"The thing I’ve learned this past year is to chill out," she said. "I think when you’re young and struggling to find yourself, there’s something alluring about the idea of being tortured.
"Life for me these days is a lot about letting the unknown be wonderful, and letting myself feel safe."
The 31-year-old took a brief break from Hollywood after her 2012 Oscar win for a supporting role in Les Miserables, but she'll be back on the big screen soon. Hathaway stars alongside Matthew McConaughey in the sci-fi flick Interstellar, which hits theaters Nov. 7.
